O2 unveils Twitter MMS service
Phone provider O2 has launched an MMS service that lets its customers post picture to Twitter straight from their mobile phone.
O2 members are required to log in to Twitter and link their mobile phone to their profile in order to start using the service. Once they have done that, they can then compose an MMS including the image and send it to 86444.
The service is charged in two ways. O2 users who buy MMS bundles will have each message deducted from their bundle allowance. Those without MMS bundles will be charged the standard rate for each message to Twitter.
Sally Cowdry, marketing and consumer director at O2 said: “We know how much our customers love using Twitter via their mobiles and this service will make it that much easier to capture those special experiences and instantly share them with their followers.”
Meanwhile, mobile Twitter use has increased by 40% this quarter, according to official stats released by Twitter last week. According to the social network, 55% of people using the service now tweet from their mobiles. This increased use of mobiles will have implications for mobile web designers as well as companies who specialise in social media marketing.
The site now has around 400 million monthly unique visitors, up from 250 million in January this year. This includes 100 million monthly global active users, half of whom use the site every day.
