LinkedIn releases new mobile app
LinkedIn, the social networking site for business, has released its new mobile app.
The app is available for iOS, Android and mobile web browsers.
It gives users a quick glance at relevant industry news together with a snapshot of personal and professional updates from their contacts.
Mobile is LinkedIn’s quickest-growing consumer area; indeed, mobile usage on the site has grown by 400% in the last year.
LinkedIn has offered mobile apps to its users for the past few years, but the new app offers a much more streamlined design built on intuitive usage.
Joff Redfern, LinkedIn mobile product chief, told one industry website: ““We looked at the current app and asked, what are people really using? Then we brought those use cases centre stage.”
Redfern and his team built the app on three user profiles: the information junkie, the meeting-bound professional and the networker.
The app’s homescreen caters for the first case whilst the profile view seeks those wishing to research contacts and prospects before meetings.
Redfern explained: ““We want to make you great at what you do. A lot of that has to do with staying informed about your industry and knowing what your colleagues are up to. The top bar of the app is a feed of personalised and curated news, and the remainder of the screen below it is a stream of updates from your contacts.”
Around half a billion users will use the app this year whilst around 14 people searches per second will take place.
